Beaches in St. Martin/St. Maarten~
Mullet Bay Beach: Powdery Sand & Surf Breaks. Set in the southwest of Saint Martin, Mullet Bay Beach is a popular beach celebrated for its beauty, surfing opportunities, and advantageous location. With a good north swell, Mullet Bay becomes one of the best St. Maarten beaches for surfing. Besides providing front-row seats to superb sunsets, the beachfront is also notable for its proximity to the Mullet Bay Golf Course. A few establishments are fronting Mullet Bay Beach, including a beach bar, and loungers and umbrellas are available to rent. There’s ample parking around Mullet Bay Beach.
Orient Bay Beach: Most famous on the island. This large, lovely, and bustling strand is the best-known among St. Martin’s beaches, nicknamed “the St. Tropez of the Caribbean.” Orient Beach on St. Martin’s northeastern coast is a windward seashore, but it comes protected by Green Key and its reef, making for calm, swimmable waters. The beach is also well developed and full of amenities. The beach comes peppered with bars, restaurants, and cafes, covering a wide range of cuisines, ambiance, and styles (including genuine fine dining). You can rent all sorts of beach-going necessities, from loungers to water sports equipment.
Grand Case Beach: Family fun + Snorkeling and Dining Paradise. The fishing village of Grand Case is justifiably among St. Martin’s top destinations. It has its own smallish but charming beachfront well served by resorts and restaurants. Grand Case Beach lets you easily combine explorations of St. Martin cuisine—from upscale restaurants to must-try Lolo barbecue vendors—with quality beach time. The waters here are calm and buffered, good for enjoying with young children, and Creole Rock just offshore marks one of St. Martin’s top snorkeling and diving locations, host to tropical fish, sea turtles, and a seabird rookery.
Cupecoy Beach: Pinnacle of Beachfront Scenery. Easily among the most dramatically set of Saint Martin’s seashores—and one of the best beaches in St. Maarten—Cupecoy lies just south of the French-Dutch border and nestles its sands amid striking sedimentary cliffs. You’ve got an abundance of restaurants, bars, rentals, and other services within easy reach at Cupecoy Beach.
Dining in St. Martin/St. Maarten~
On the island, you’ll find quaint local cafes serving freshly caught seafood and fine dining restaurants that feature world-class dining experiences. French and Creole are the most common preparation techniques on the island. But you can also find excellent Italian fare, grilled burgers, or a martini espresso.
Sunset Beach Bar, Maho Beach: Located directly on Maho Beach in Dutch St Martin, this restaurant sits just to the south of the main runway of the Princess Juliana International airport. As a result, it’s a fun place to dine and to sip on cocktails while watching the planes landing and taking off over the sea. The Sunset Beach Bar serves up sandwiches, pizza, burgers, and barbecue. Located on the Dutch side of the island.
Altro, Porto Cupecoy: The restaurant serves up Italian, French, and Mediterranean cuisine with interesting modern twists. For example, its menu might include a shiitake mushroom risotto with creamy morel sauce or a Middle Eastern-influenced roasted eggplant and chickpea salad with hummus. Located on the Dutch side of the island.
Karakter, Simpson Bay: Located on Simpson Bay Beach, this restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. During the day, chairs and umbrellas are included with your food and drink, so that you can enjoy the beautiful beach after your meal. At night, Karakter ramps up its game a notch, serving high-quality cuisine, including lobster tails and a rack of lamb. Located on the Dutch side of the island.
Emilio's: This restaurant specializes in elevated Caribbean and International fusion cuisine. A prime example is Emilio's aromatic West Indian Seafood Stew with octopus and baby clams. Other popular menu items include snapper en papilotte and a grilled rack of lamb. Emilio's has earned several awards. For instance, USA Today's readers voted Emilio's as number five on the publication's list of the top ten best restaurants in the Caribbean. Located on the Dutch side of the island.
L'Auberge Gourmande: Located in one of the oldest Creole cottages on St. Martin, which gives this restaurant a lovely old-world charm. The food here is classic French. Think roasted rack of lamb and Dover Sole Meuniere. Also offers delicious options for vegetarians, such as phyllo pastry stuffed with seasonal vegetables. The restaurant is known not just for its talented chef, but also for its impeccable service. Reservations are highly recommended. Located on the French side of the island.
Rainbow Café: Grand Case. You'll find a little bit of everything on the Rainbow Cafe's menu, which features French, Caribbean, and Asian cuisine, as well as tapas. Breakfast, sunset drinks, and dinner are available in the rooftop lounge, while lunch is served in the beachfront restaurant. On the lunch menu, you'll find an interesting mix of dishes, ranging from an upscale burger to a braised and seared octopus to poke bowls. Located on the French side of the island.
Golf in St. Martin/St. Maarten~
Mullet Bay Golf Course: St Maarten / St Martin Island golf course, designed by Joseph Lee, offers an 18-hole, par 70. The once famed Mullet Bay Beach Resort is no more, but the 18-hole, par 70 golf course is still here and offers a great challenge to the avid golfer.
